The Frontpage project, which has already been successfully presented in Athens in 2023 and in Cyprus in 2024, is being organized for the third consecutive year in Athens. This is an interdisciplinary, research project that focuses on the concept of “front page” and “headline news” in print and digital media with the participation of artists and cultural producers from the visual arts, the academic community and the media.
Peggy Kliafa’s text:
I participate in the exhibition with the installation of artworks COVID II and ARMORY SQUARE – PLACEBO SERIES. A small sculpture in the shape of the Covid-19 virus is placed in front of a wall-mounted assemblage which is made from a multitude of silver used pill blisters and parts of them, as well as injection needles. The spread and deadly effects of the virus paralyzed the world in a way that is unprecedented in recent history. Its interception was made possible by the discovery and use of new vaccines and other medicines. Their therapeutic effect was nevertheless questioned and discussed on the front pages of the press perhaps more than any other drug. The medicine and its dual nature – both remedy and poison -, when used excessively or incorrectly, find perfect application in the case of Covid and its treatment.
